  • C Horizon (Parent Material): Here, we find the ‘weathered parent.’ It consists of large, partially broken-down chunks of the parent rock from which the soil is formed. It’s the raw, unrefined material for the layers above.
  • R Horizon (Bedrock): The final stop on our journey is the solid, unweathered ‘bedrock foundation.’ This is the parent rock in its original, consolidated form.
