Introduction: The Celestial Spine of Asia

Imagine the Himalayas not as a static mountain chain, but as a colossal, sleeping dragon arching across Asia. Its tail rests in the west, its mighty torso rises to touch the heavens in the center, and its head guards the lush, verdant frontiers of the east. This east-west, or longitudinal division, is a fundamental concept for understanding the geography, climate, and strategic importance of this magnificent range. 1. The Western Himalayas (The Crown of India)
